Five Star Sportfishing Hawaii was formed by John Troutman a few years after he retired from the US Marine Corps and moved to Hawaii. John wanted to establish a venue that would share his passion and knowledge of big game sportfishing with all people, experienced or beginner.

His company, Five Star Sportfishing, has become most successful due to an excellent reputation for outstanding customer service. Whether you fish with Captain Ruben or Captain John, your day on the water will prove to be an enjoyable and the most memorable experience during your stay in Honolulu.

The Boat

“Ruckus” is a 38’ Bertram that is spacious, comfortable, and customized to fish the waters in Hawaii. The boat is a one-stateroom, one-bathroom, and air-conditioned vessel that boasts a flat-screen television and a high-definition digital antenna that can catch the big game up to 65 miles offshore.

It also has a small refrigerator and microwave oven onboard for your convenience. The bridge alone has more than enough room to comfortably accommodate most of the charter.

Lastly, Ruckus is considered one of the best striking boats in the Harbor. While there are no guarantees, you can be sure that our crew members are genuine professionals giving you a high probability of catching fish! Both Ruckus and Five Star Sportfishing are located in Honolulu at Kewalo Basin Harbor just minutes from Waikiki.

The Equipment

Ruckus uses Penn and Shimano big game reels, which are also provided to guests. Except food and drinks, we will supply everything for your day on the water, including ice and coolers. There is also no requirement for fishing licenses.

Five Star Sport Fishing

The Fish

At Five Star Sportfishing, we troll for pelagic fish that are caught all year round in Hawaii. These include marlin, mahi-mahi, ahi (yellowfin tuna), and ono (wahoo). We will gladly cut and share up to 50 pounds of fish for fish weighing less than 100 pounds. Unfortunately, all fish weighing over 100 pounds are required to stay with the boat.

Charters

Ruckus can be booked exclusively for full, ¾, and ½ day private charters for parties up to six persons. We also offer full and half-day shared charters for people who don’t mind fishing with others. For couples or single persons, this option is the most economical since you are sharing the boat and cost with up to five other people.
